The stereotype of the players of computer games is: they are fat and out of shape physically. A recent study by researchers at the University of Los Angeles and research center in Palo Alto just wring the blow to these ideas.
They conducted their investigation from a sample of 7000 EverQuest II players to try their mental and physical health. To motivate the players to participate in this survey, they were offered a virtual weapon "Greatstaff of the Sun Serpent" which gives them super powers in the game EverQuest II ![]()
It follows that the average body mass index of players is 25.2 while the U.S. is on average 28. They play sports physical on average 1 to 2 times per week which is above the U.S. average. The researchers have no particular reason to explain this péhnomène.
They believe that players of computer games are more educated than average and they would therefore pay more attention to their body than others.
For the record:
Body mass index is calculated with a simple mathematical formula:
BMI = weight / height ²

To calculate BMI, the formula is worth nothing if we do not include units!
Height in meters and weight in kg.
